Hanlan’s Point
In the late 1800’s, Hanlan’s Point was a famous resort society for summer cottagers. In 1862, Hanlan’s family moved to the area and in 1870 they converted their house into a beautiful hotel to attract tourists to Toronto Island. In 1909, Hanlan’s hotel got devastated by fire.
Nowadays, Hanlan’s Point is the least busy, most greenish and well serviced area. It offers a baseball diamond, outdoor volleyball court, bike trails, drinking fountains, fire pits, picnic sites, changing rooms, washrooms and the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse.
The beach at Hanlan’s Point
The beach is surrounded with stunning but delicate sandy hills and gives a beautiful view of the city of Toronto. As the beach is located on the westside it is a great place to see enjoy the sunset. The beach at Hanlan’s Point is considered gay friendly and attracts all sorts of people due to its calm and friendly environment. Hanlan’s Point Beach is the only beach in Toronto (and the second in Canada) that operates as a clothing-optional beach. The beach also has a mandatory-clothing side to it, but many people from the city come here to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds in the nude. Sometimes, due to high water levels, Hanlan’s Point Beach is not recommended for use.
