Toronto Ward’s Island
Ward’s Island is located at the eastward and is accessible by the Ward’s Island ferry. This is the residential area of Toronto Island. About 650 individuals call Ward’s Island home. There is no public transportation, nor any stores in this area. Cars are not allowed. Ward’s Island is like cottage country in the middle of Canada’s biggest city. All islands on Toronto Island Park are connected by bridges, you can walk from one island to another.
In the area you can find a soccer field, Ward’s Island Association Club House, a disc golf course and boardwalk to Hanlan’s Point (4.5 kms) and Centre Island (3 kms). The Island Cafe is located directly across the ferry terminal.
Since bicycles are allowed on the ferry from Toronto to Ward’s Island, the area is a popular recreation destination. The best way to explorer the island is biking along the many bike trails. You can bring your own bike, visit the public bicycle sharing station (at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal) or rent a bike on Centre Island.
Ward’s Island beach
The Ward’s Island beach is one of the least busy parts of Toronto Island Park. The water quality is good, which makes this beach an attractive location. Unlike the beach of Hanlan’s Point, the Ward’s Island beach is more rocky than sandy.
